SANTIAGO, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Four people, including two minors, died early Wednesday after a fire broke out at a camp in Chile's capital Santiago, local media reported, citing information from the Carabineros militarized police force.

According to Lt. Col. Christian Bichett, the blaze began past midnight Tuesday at a house in the Cerrillos district, in southwest Santiago.

"We were alerted, notified by firefighters and residents of El Esfuerzo camp that a fire was burning at a one-story house, and as a result of the fire, the roof unfortunately collapsed, resulting in four deaths," Bichett said.

The fatal victims included two adults and two minors, all members of a Haitian family living at the site, he said.

"The fire department is currently investigating the underlying cause of the fire, whether it was electrical or something else," Bichett added.
