LATRINIDAD, BENGUET, Feb 26, (PIA) -- Residents in the valley are again called to take extra precaution in protecting themselves against the COVID-19 as cases continue to rise in the municipality particularly at the municipal local government.

Mayor Romeo Salda confirmed that there have been COVID-19 infections detected involving employees of the local government of La Trinidad and it already reached a critical level.

The LGU reported that 19 employees tested positive for the COVID-19 since last week. Salda said that most of the cases involved employees who are processing business permits in the municipality. The LGU suspended the processing of business permits at the La Trinidad municipal gymnasium or the Business One Stop Shop until further notice.

"We appeal to the residents of La Trinidad to strictly practice the minimum health standards against the COVID-19 particularly those having transactions at the municipal government as cases in the LGU have increased," Salda said in an interview.

The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office and the General Services Office of the LGU conducted disinfection and sanitation activities at the different offices, facilities, and other areas within the municipal hall, the La Trinidad gymnasium and the municipal compound during the lockdown.

The mayor said the LGU is targeting to swab all the municipal employees who have not yet been swabbed particularly the direct contacts of the identified cases. He said that to ensure that the operation of the LGU would not be affected, the employees who were swabbed and have tested negative would be placed on a skeleton mode.

As of Feb. 27, La Trinidad is classified to have high risk epidemic level with 1614 confirmed cases with 176 active cases, 1406 recoveries and 32 deaths. (JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)
